Fancy combining the chance to recreate some scenes from the hugely successful ‘Lord of the Rings’ and ‘The Hobbit’ films whilst on holiday in the North Yorkshire Moors? If the answer to this question is a resounding YES then I have the place for you! Having been a huge fan of everything Tolkien growing up I thought I’d have to spend a huge amount on a plane ticket to New Zealand to immerse myself in all that his words created. Turns out this isn’t the case.
Set in the small farm village of Liverton, North Yorkshire the charm and character of this family run business venture hits you immediately. Without even seeing the Hobbit House it already seems the perfect place for a summer camping spot; with a variety of farm animals to entertain the children. Its location is also perfect for many outings. Seaside towns of Saltburn, Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay are all less than a 45 minute drive away and there is also the stunning Dalby Forest close by.
This unique accommodation is based on Bilbo Baggins’ house in the literary classic, ‘The Lord of the Rings’. This is the first of many hobbit houses to be built on the Golden Hill Farm site and since its opening this spring it has been hugely popular. This particular hobbit house accommodates up to 6 people; whether it be two adults and four children or four adults and two children. It will set you back £850 for a week stay which is worthwhile as it is in the perfect location and base to explore everything North East England has to offer. Even if you don’t fancy the hobbit house there are places for tents and caravans on site and also gypsy style houses to be rented.
The attention to detail in the Hobbit House is also second to none. Whilst not an exact replica to the inside of the house from the films, the rustic and rural feel of the place transports you there nonetheless. The hobbit style portraits of the owners on the wall are a classic touch, as are the most comfortable hand stitched beds you’ll ever sleep in! I absolutely loved the place and would love a family stay here even though it’s only 20 minutes up the road from where I’m from.
So do you want to sit in the garden and pretend to wait for Gandalf and his amazing fireworks to arrive?
