Travel | Exploring Buckinghamshire & Beyond

Just a stone’s throw away from the madness that is central London are the beautiful home counties. In the last couple of days I’ve been exploring Marlow in Buckinghamshire & Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire. As I’ve mentioned in a previous post, getting out and exploring is something that means a lot to me at the moment. I took my camera along and looked for some interesting places to visit and I thought I’d share them you all.

Marlow, Buckinghamshire

Situated on the river Thames is the idyllic & quaint town of Marlow. Home to michelin star restaurants,  olympic rowers & the birth place of Frankenstein it is the perfect place to spend an afternoon exploring and taking photos. Me and a friend decided to have brunch at a place called Fego Caffe situated on the main high street through the town. As the weather was good to us and it felt the official first day of Spring, I decided to be a bit healthy and order a ‘Green for Go’ smoothie.  For food I ordered the ‘All American Pancake Stack’ which, as with the smoothie, was delicious. I’d 100% recommend this place to anyone visiting this area.

After lunch we decided to have a bit of browse around the shops as Marlow is full to the brim with independent trinket shops and eateries. I have a serious sweet tooth so spent quite a substantial time in Beehive Treats which offers an array of traditional and more retro sweets.

Finally, no visit to Marlow is complete without a walk along the Thames. Interesting fact: as Marlow is twinned with an area in Budapest the bridge is an exact replica of the Széchenyi Chain Bridge there.  Marlow’s bridge actually came first as a prototype for the version in Budapest. It’s a perfect way to spend a spring day….

Yet another stones throw away from Marlow is the town of Henley-on-Thames known for the Royal Rowing Regatta that takes place annually. Also situated on the Thames, it provides photographers with some nice backgrounds and the chance to experiment with exposures as I attempted to.

Let me know in the comments about any recommendations for things to do/places to visit in this part of the world. In the next couple of days I’m moving the Kew/Richmond in South West London to explore. There will be another blog post coming very soon so look out for that!
